PHASE 01
Mapping, Learning & Creation

In the initial phase, faculty will map DEI learning outcomes in their curricula and attend workshops on leveraging data and culturally responsive practices. These workshops will equip faculty to identify and revise courses, create inclusive syllabi and assignments, and integrate culturally responsive practices to align with removing historic barriers to college access and student success.

Step 01

Nominations, Teams, & Funding

Nomination Process

Academic areas are nominated by their respective Deans. Upon nomination, Chairs or Directors are responsible for identifying a faculty team to participate in the program. Team members must possess a comprehensive understanding of students' learning experiences across their courses.

Funding Eligibility

When participation in this program is not part of a teaching load or special assignment, team members are eligible for curriculum development funds. To receive funds at the end of each semester, faculty must complete the pre-determined deliverables and submit a funding request.

Step 02

Mapping

Mapping Learning Outcomes

In the fall term, programs and departments will engage in a mapping process to pinpoint where and how college-identified learning outcomes are introduced and assessed. These outcomes include representation, socio-historical understanding, and intercultural and job skills. This mapping process will be a key tool to determine where DEI outcomes can be integrated across courses within a program or department.

Deliverables:

  • A completed curriculum map that clearly identifies which courses will incorporate specific DEI learning outcomes.

Step 03

Data Use for Equity Workshop

Faculty participating in the program will be asked to complete the Data Use for Equity workshop. This will inform their strategic next steps by ensuring faculty have a solid grounding in equity principles and the skills to analyze and address racial inequities within their academic domains.

This two-part workshop empowers participants to cultivate an equity mindset and analyze student data within their academic domains. Emphasizing equity-driven data analysis to tackle racial disparities, it guides the exploration of institutional strategies to address racial inequities. It is strongly encouraged that participants complete this workshop with their program or department.

Step 04

Unlocking Excellence through Culturally Responsive Practices

To equip faculty with the skills to foster inclusive partnerships in today's diverse world, participating faculty will be asked to complete the Unlocking Excellence through Culturally Responsive Practices workshop. This transformative, four-week workshop delves into culturally responsive practices, building effective partnerships, understanding cultural identity, and creating inclusive communities.

Step 05

Inclusive Syllabus Design Workshop

Participating faculty will be asked to complete the It's in the Syllabus workshop, a two-part series focused on creating inclusive syllabi to enhance effective teaching.

The first session provides essential practices for designing an inclusive syllabus, while the second session offers an opportunity to receive constructive feedback to refine your syllabus to incorporate evidenced-based tenets to design syllabi as a roadmap for student success.

Step 06

Curriculum Development

During the spring term, faculty will identify which course(s) curriculum will be revised. In consultation with the IETC team, a revision plan will be established, specifying the course number, title, and revisions to guide the development process.

Deliverables in this step include:
